Title: Extremely Disappointing Experience with Menards Moving and Storage
I want to warn others about my terrible experience with Menards Moving and Storage. First and foremost, this company is a broker, not a direct moving service—they use third-party drivers and essentially sell your move to the highest bidder. You have no control or knowledge of who will actually handle your belongings, and this leads to all sorts of problems.
All of our emails and documentation, including our original quote and binding estimate, expired or became inaccessible. The binding estimate provided was $1,970.80, which I confirmed was within my $2,000 budget with Lenny Powers, the person who booked our move from Washington State to Louisiana. He assured me that this price was guaranteed. After we paid our deposit, everything began to unravel.
The actual mover, Danny, was from a company called Direct Location and arrived in an unmarked box truck. Communication was terrible—the night before, Danny confirmed he would arrive at 8 am, but he pushed it back to 11 am, then to 1 pm. When he finally showed up, he demanded $2,600—far above our agreed price. Danny used a green sticker labeling system for our inventory and, on the sheet he filled out, listed 758 cubic feet at $2.60 per cubic foot, plus another 542 cubic feet at the same rate, suddenly inflating our total cost by thousands.
For reference, the pickup date was 1/24/26 and the delivery date was 2/15/26. Before the driver would even open the U-Haul (which we had to pay for), he demanded another $2,797.65. To add to the confusion, this payment had to be made out to yet another company, Moving Prime. When the delivery finally happened, the driver was a Russian man who barely spoke English, and his helper did not speak English at all. The language barrier made communication impossible and left me feeling very unsafe during the delivery process. We felt completely trapped and extorted.
Throughout the move, several fragile items were handled carelessly, and some boxes arrived damaged. Communication with Menards and all involved parties was abysmal. Hidden charges, lack of professionalism, language barriers, and feeling unsafe made this the worst moving experience we've ever had. I cannot recommend Menards Moving and Storage to anyone and urge others to look elsewhere for a trustworthy mover.
