I paid for $4000 for 800 cubic square feet and they only allowed me 640 when their subcontracted moving company arrived. We measured ourselves and they told us to contact Swift which claims no responsibility once your items are turned over to the moving company that they contract out to. This is the most deceitful company I have ever dealt with, they also did damage to our flooring and are completely unprofessional. Don't let the good reviews fool you, you will pay double. Rent a U-Haul and save thousands and save yourself the entire headache of dealing with such an unprofessional company.
We needed to move our small workspace with six employees to a new building. The movers arrived on time and started by disconnecting computers and sorting cables. By afternoon, the entire setup was completed at the new site. The transition was seamless, and our team was back to work the next morning without any disruption.
I was thoroughly impressed at how efficiently the moving crew tackled the challenge of transporting things to a high-rise apartment (on the 5th floor). Since the elevator was out due to power outage, I was a bit concerned that they would put things off, but they took the task head-on and safely carried everything up into my apartment through the stairs. Not a single piece was scratched or harmed in any way. I am grateful beyond measure!
I needed a long distance move from Florida to North Carolina and I was scared about my antique dresser that my great aunt left me. Swift Shift Van Lines handled the whole thing without me driving behind the truck the entire way, like I originally planned to do. Phil put padding on every corner of that dresser and then wrapped it again with a blanket on top. The truck arrived in North Carolina three days later, and the driver called me when he was thirty minutes out so I could meet him there. It was a great service.
After experiencing Swift Shift's services firsthand, I feel compelled to warn others about this company's problematic business practices. What started as an affordable moving solution quickly became a nightmare of hidden fees, poor communication, and accountability issues. Swift Shift initially provided an extremely competitive estimate that was significantly lower than other companies I contacted. This should have been my first red flag. After paying the required non-refundable deposit to "secure" my moving date, the real problems began. On moving day, the actual movers (who, I later learned, were from a completely different third-party company) arrived and immediately informed me that the price would be nearly double the original estimate. They cited additional charges for stairs, distance from the truck, packing materials, and various other fees that were never mentioned in the initial quote. With my belongings already loaded and limited options available, I felt forced to pay the inflated price -- how can you back out on moving day? Tenants were moving in two days after my moving day. Swift Shift knows this is typically the case and exploit. Once the move was underway, getting any information about my shipment became nearly impossible. Phone calls went unreturned and when I did get through, I was hung up on. Promised delivery dates came and went without explanation, and when I did manage to reach someone, they seemed to have no knowledge of my specific situation. The lack of tracking information and constant delays added tremendous stress to an already difficult process. What Swift Shift fails to make clear upfront is that they operate primarily as a broker, not an actual moving company. This means they're essentially a middleman who contracts your move out to other companies. When problems arise - and they will - Swift Shift points fingers at the third-party movers, while those movers claim they're just following Swift Shift's instructions. This creates a frustrating cycle where no one takes responsibility for the issues. Swift Shift was unresponsive to my calls and emails about insurance information. Getting documentation and information about where my items were and when they’d arrive was like pulling teeth. Moving is stressful enough without dealing with misleading, predatory business practices and poor customer service. While Swift Shift's initial estimates might seem attractive, the hidden costs, lack of communication, and accountability issues make them a company I cannot recommend. There are honest, reliable moving companies out there - Swift Shift is not one of them.
The worst moving company on this planet, and I have moved a lot, including cross continents and cross country. They give you a sale pitch with low price and how no additional fees will possibly occur and once they take your deposit, it all goes down hill. They increased price almost two fold because of changes in inventory of 10 more boxes (75 vs. 65 boxes caused price increase from $2.5k to $4.5k) in a scale of one bedroom apartment move with furniture. The person on the phone doing final inventory was rude and straight up said take $4.5 final or lose your 1k deposit, which also happened right before the move leaving me absolutely no choice but pay double. Then, they said they would provide insurance in advance (required by my building) and in the end I only saw insurance after driver showed up. Company that showed up had their own fees, that were not part of my contract with swift shift van lines, or even explicitly I was told in the contract that I wouldn't pay ("no elevator charge"), that I was forced to pay in advance otherwise they wouldn't start the move. They sent too few people and move took so long, they went over 1 hour outside of the window that my building allowed for moves (which I made company aware multiple times) and caused serious friction with management in my building. Upon arrival of my stuff across the country, additional fees were imposed that were not part of my contract (which I was forced to pay if I wanted to get my stuff back) for the total of $5.1k (vs. $2.5k quote I received when I started talking to them). Cherry on top - they made me sign inventory before they delivered and then they lost an electric scooter worth $1.3k and did absolutely nothing about it! I got back $20 from insurance claim!!! Multiple items were also damaged. Not a single lamp survived their "white glove" service. Absolutely, not under a gun point would I ever agree or recommend this company to anyone.
A really positive encounter with the movers. I employed them for a full moving service because I was relocating alone. Since they effortlessly disassembled my bulky furniture, uninstalled my home theatre system and TVs, packed everything carefully, and handled all the hard lifting, it was actually a relief. After successfully transporting everything, they stayed behind to assemble and install my belongings.
This company tells you what you want to hear & never follows up. Basically after you’ve paid they deliver lip service. I have moved 12 times previously & never had the problems that I encountered with Swift. On my moving day, nothing went right. The movers had not been notified of the updates I had made. I had to leave items behind due to the truck not having enough room. The customer service staff had no answers & made no compensations for the disaster this move was. Do Not waste your money or time with this unprofessional moving company.
