I hired Pauly’s Movers for a move on February 28, and it was one of the worst service experiences I’ve ever had.
I have moved eight times in the past 11 years, including multiple long-distance moves with similar amounts of belongings, and those moves consistently took about four hours plus drive time. During my initial conversation with Terri, I specifically raised concerns about protecting my brand-new home, which was in perfect condition. I was repeatedly told a four-person crew using “two packing and two loading” would handle the move efficiently.
My move window was 1:00–6:00 PM. At 1:00 PM, I was told movers were on the way and would arrive within the hour. They did not arrive until around 4:00 PM, and only three movers showed up.
I was moving from a one-bedroom apartment with a den, and nearly everything was already packed except part of my kitchen and a few remaining items. Within about 45 minutes, I noticed very little progress and found movers sitting on the truck talking. When I contacted management about the missing fourth mover and inactivity, I was told I had only been quoted three movers despite repeatedly being told “two packing and two loading.”
It quickly became obvious one mover was doing most of the work while the other two stood around, moved slowly, grabbed one box at a time or handled belongings carelessly. My mother and I packed, carried, and loaded items ourselves while paid movers stood idle. At one point, all three movers dropped my 85-inch TV on the stairs while boxing it, then dropped it again during unloading.
A fourth mover eventually arrived near the end to help finish loading but did not assist with unloading. By then, the move had already taken far longer than expected. None of the remaining packing they were contracted to complete was finished, and I ultimately had to take additional time off work to return and finish moving items myself.
The two inexperienced movers repeatedly assembled furniture incorrectly, requiring the lead mover to redo their work. I later learned it was only their second day.
When we arrived at my new house, the movers stated they needed approval from management before unloading. Manager said they would not unload my belongings unless I paid the bill in full first. By this point, the cost had increased from the original $867 quote to $1,756.11 — more than double.
Before paying, I raised concerns about the dropped TV, excessive idle time, possible damage to my belongings and home, and the fact that unloading had not even occurred yet. Despite those concerns, I was told nothing would be unloaded until payment was made in full.
The movers also lost the hardware for both my TV and desk, leaving them unable to set either up as agreed. Even worse, there was visible damage throughout my brand-new home, including scratches, dents, wall scuffs, and damage to fresh paint that had cost nearly $2,000 the week before.
After the move, I repeatedly attempted to resolve everything through calls, texts, and emails but received no meaningful response. Their claims department only contacted me regarding the dropped TV while broader concerns — excessive billing, home damage, lost hardware, incomplete services, and paid idle time — were ignored.
This should have been a straightforward move. Instead, I paid more than double the quoted cost for late, understaffed service that damaged my home, dropped belongings, lost hardware, left work incomplete, and was followed by zero accountability. I strongly encourage anyone considering this company to think carefully before booking.
