What to do if a mover pressures you about a review

By MGM Editorial Team Last updated

You have the right to post an honest review. Under the federal Consumer Review Fairness Act, a contract term that bans honest reviews, or charges a fee or penalty for one, can’t be enforced against you.

A moving company must never

  • threaten you, or say it will take legal action, to stop or remove a review;
  • hold back or delay your belongings because of a review;
  • make a refund, discount or fix depend on changing or removing your review;
  • offer you something in return for a review.

What to do

  1. Keep the messages, emails or contract terms.
  2. Report it to us. We treat pressure on customers as serious misuse and may show a warning on the company’s profile or remove its listing.
  3. If a company is holding your belongings, contact your local police. For interstate moves, file a complaint with FMCSA through Protect Your Move or call 1-888-DOT-SAFT (1-888-368-7238). You can also report fraud to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.
