Our Policy on Ads and Unbiased Rankings

By MGM Editorial Team Last updated

My Good Movers is free for people planning a move. We earn money from moving companies, and some of them pay for ads on our site. This page explains how you can tell an ad apart from our own results, and how we stop money from affecting our rankings and reviews.

In Short

  • Every ad is labeled “Ad”.
  • Ads are shown in their own spots, separate from our organic results.
  • No mover can pay to move up our organic rankings, raise its star rating, or remove a review.
  • Our sales team can’t change rankings or reviews.
  • You never pay us, and we don’t take a commission when you hire a mover.

How to Spot an Ad

Every paid placement on My Good Movers shows an “Ad” label on the listing itself, placed before the company name, on desktop and mobile. We use this one label everywhere, so you never have to guess what “Sponsored,” “Featured” or “Premium” might mean.

You may see ads on:

  • our resource pages, state pages, city pages and route pages (for example, “New York to Florida”);
  • state directory pages where a mover has paid to appear outside its home state.

Movers buy these spots through our Featured Partner and Sponsored Ad programs, or by adding extra states to a Premium subscription. Whatever the program, you see the same “Ad” label.

An ad is not a recommendation. It doesn’t mean we rate that mover more highly or have checked the quality of its work. Judge an advertised mover the way you would judge any other: read its reviews and check its federal registration.

What Paying Can and Can’t Change

Paying never changes:

  • a mover’s place in our organic results (its Organic Rank);
  • its star rating;
  • which reviews we show, or whether a review shows a “Verified” label;
  • whether we show a warning on its profile.

Paying can change only three things, and each one is disclosed:

  1. Ad spots, which are labeled “Ad.”
  2. Extra state pages a mover appears on, which are also labeled “Ad.”
  3. Which movers receive your quote request (see “When You Request a Quote” below).

How We Rank Our Organic Results

Our organic results are the movers shown without an “Ad” label. We put them in order using one Organic Rank score, built from:

  • customer reviews and ratings on My Good Movers, including how many there are and how recent they are;
  • the mover’s track record, such as how long it has been active and how it has handled customer issues;
  • whether customers report clear, upfront pricing;
  • how quickly and clearly the mover communicates, based on customer feedback;
  • how well the mover fits your move, such as its service area and service type.

For interstate moves, we check that the mover’s USDOT number is active in FMCSA records. Subscriptions, ads, per-lead fees and any other payment are not part of the score. If you choose a different sort order yourself, such as by rating, the list follows your choice.

How Reviews Stay Independent

  • Anyone who has hired, booked or paid a deposit to a moving company can review it. You don’t need an account.
  • Some reviews show a label. Verified means we invited the reviewer after they requested quotes through My Good Movers and booked that mover (the moving company confirmed the booking), or they showed us proof of the move. Invited means the mover invited them. Reviews without a label go through the same checks.
  • We check every review for signs of fraud, such as duplicate reviews or reviews from people connected to the mover.
  • We apply the same rules to positive and negative reviews. A mover can’t pay to remove, hide or change a review.

How We Keep Sales Separate

  • Sales can’t touch scores. Our advertising and sales team can’t edit a mover’s Organic Rank, rating or reviews.
  • The ranking is automatic. Organic Rank is worked out by our system using the signals above, not by hand.
  • Manual actions follow written rules. Our team may lower a listing’s visibility, show a warning, or suspend a listing, for example if its federal registration is inactive or we find fraud. These decisions follow the rules on our Action We Take page and never depend on whether a mover pays us.
  • Regular checks. We review the ranking system regularly to make sure it still works as this page describes.

How My Good Movers Makes Money

We earn money only from moving companies:

  • fixed fees, billed monthly or in advance, for a Premium subscription, extra state listings and the Featured Partner program;
  • per-lead fees for quote requests delivered through the Featured Partner and Sponsored Ad programs and our Lead Program; and
  • article fees for articles a moving company publishes on its own profile, shown with the company named as the author.

We don’t charge movers for ad views or clicks. You never pay us, and we don’t take a commission or referral fee when you hire or pay a mover.

When You Request a Quote

When you fill in our quote form, our automatic system sends your request to up to three moving companies matched to your move. If you request a quote from a mover's ad (a Featured Partner spot or a Sponsored Ad), your request goes only to that mover. It matches movers using your route, move size and date, their location and availability, and whether they pay to receive leads from us. That affects only who receives your request. It never changes a mover’s Organic Rank, rating or reviews.

Movers can call or text you only if you tick the consent box on the form. Otherwise, they contact you by email. You are never required to hire anyone. Our Privacy Policy explains how we use your information.

Questions or Concerns

If you see a paid listing without an “Ad” label, or think a ranking looks wrong, please report it. We’ll check it and fix any mistake.
