Guidelines for Reviewers

By MGM Editorial Team Last updated

Introduction

My Good Movers exists to help people find a moving company they can trust, and to help good movers earn that trust. Reviews from real customers are at the heart of how we do this. They help the next family plan a safer move, and they show movers where they can do better. To keep every review honest and useful, we ask all reviewers to follow these guidelines, as well as our Terms and Conditions, our Privacy Policy and the other policies on our website.

You can also see How We Keep Reviews Trustworthy for more details on how we check and publish reviews.

Who Can Write a Review?

You can review a moving company if you hired it, booked it or paid it a deposit. That includes moves that went wrong or never happened, such as a crew that didn't show up or a shipment that was held back. Those experiences matter most to other people.

You don't need an account. Click "Write a Review" on the moving company's profile, write your review and enter your name and email address. We use your email only to check your review and to contact you about it.

Your review needs a title, a star rating from 1 to 5 and at least 100 characters of text. You can also add photos from your move. After you post, we email you a link to confirm your email address. Your review isn’t published until you click that link. Once it’s live, we send you a second email with a "Delete Review" link you can use at any time.

To write a review:

  • You must be 18 or older.
  • You must have dealt with the mover yourself, or be the person who arranged the move.
  • You can write one review per move.

You can't write a review if:

  • You work for the mover, own part of it, or are a close friend or family member of its owner or staff.
  • You work for, or are connected to, a competing moving company.
  • You were paid, or offered anything of value, to write the review.

Do I Need an Invitation to Write a Review?

No. You can write a review on your own at any time. A mover may also send you an invitation. Movers must invite all their customers, not just happy ones, and they can't tell you what to write. If an invitation asks only for positive reviews or offers you a reward, please report it.

How Do I Write a Helpful Review?

The most useful reviews are specific and based on what you saw. Try to cover:

  • Your move: the route and the month you moved.
  • Price: what you were quoted and what you finally paid. If the price changed, say why you were told it changed.
  • Timing: whether pickup and delivery happened when promised.
  • The crew: how they handled your belongings and treated you.
  • Problems: any damage or missing items, and how the mover handled your claim.
  • Communication: how easy it was to reach the mover before, during and after the move.

Stick to facts you know, and make it clear when you're giving your opinion. Write soon after your move, while the details are fresh.

Write It Yourself

Your review must be written by you and describe your own experience. Don't post a review written by someone else or generated by an AI tool. You can use spell check or a translation tool, as long as the words still reflect what actually happened to you.

Can I Get Paid or Rewarded for a Review?

No. Don't accept money, discounts, refunds, gifts or prize entries in exchange for a review. If a mover offers you something for a review, especially a positive one, please report it. We remove reviews that were bought or rewarded.

What Isn't Allowed?

We may remove a review, or part of it, if it includes any of the following.

Harmful or illegal content

  • Threats, harassment or abusive language.
  • Hate speech, or content that discriminates based on race, gender, sexuality, ethnicity, religion or disability.
  • Obscene or sexually explicit content.
  • Statements you know are false.

Private information

  • Phone numbers, home addresses, emails, financial details, or other private information about anyone, including crew members. You can mention a crew member by first name.
  • Photos that show card or bank details, other people’s private documents, or people who haven’t agreed to appear. Photos must be your own and come from your move.

Advertising and spam

  • Promotion of another business, links, discount codes, or repeated or copied text.

Reviews not based on a real experience

  • Fake reviews, reviews written by the mover or people connected to it, and reviews written to hurt a competitor.
  • Reviews written by AI tools or by someone other than the customer.

Reviews about something else

  • Reviews posted on the wrong mover's profile. Please check the company name before you post.
  • Comments about My Good Movers itself. Please contact us instead, so we can help.

We never remove a review just because it's negative or because a mover asked us to.

How Do We Verify Reviews?

Fake reviews mislead people at one of the most stressful times of their lives, so we work hard to keep them off My Good Movers. We do this in three ways: technology, our moderators, and our community.

  • Technology. Every review is screened before it's published by automated checks, including an AI tool that reads the review and flags any that don't seem to describe a real moving experience or may break these guidelines. The AI doesn't have the final say: our moderators decide on every review it flags. These checks look for repeated wording, unusual timing and signs that a review was posted automatically. We also watch for sudden spikes in very positive or very negative reviews on a mover's profile.
  • Our moderators. Our team checks every review our systems flag, plus a share of other reviews by hand. We check that the details you give us, such as your move date, route, home size and the amount you paid, are complete and make sense together. We remove reviews from anyone connected to the mover or to a competitor.
  • Our community. Anyone can report a review they think breaks these guidelines, using the "Report" button on the review.

While we check a review, it may be hidden for a short time. If a review turns out to be fake, we remove it and take action under our Action We Take policy.

Keep proof of your move. We may ask you for proof that you used the mover, such as a booking confirmation, contract, invoice or bill of lading. Please keep these documents after your move.

Some reviews show a label. Verified means we invited you after you requested quotes through My Good Movers and booked that mover (the moving company confirmed the booking), or you showed us proof of your move. Invited means the mover invited you to write the review. Reviews without a label were written without an invitation, and they go through the same checks. Learn more in How We Keep Reviews Trustworthy.

Can a Mover Pressure Me to Change or Remove My Review?

No. Under the federal Consumer Review Fairness Act, a contract term that bans honest reviews, or charges you a fee or penalty for posting one, can't be enforced against you.

A mover can post a public reply to your review, following our Guidelines for Moving Companies. It can't contact you through our platform about your review, and it must never threaten you, demand payment, or hold back your belongings to make you change or remove it. If that happens, please report it right away.

Can I Edit or Remove My Review?

Yes. If the mover fixed the problem or your experience changed, you can update your review. You can delete it yourself at any time with the "Delete Review" link in the email we sent when your review went live, without an account. You can also ask us to update or remove it: contact us and tell us which review you mean. The choice is always yours. No mover is allowed to pressure you either way.

How Do I Report a Review?

Anyone can report a review that seems to break these guidelines. Use the "Report" button on the review and tell us what's wrong. A moderator usually looks at reports within one to three days. Please use reporting honestly. Reporting a review just because you disagree with it is not allowed. See Action We Take for how we handle reports.

What Happens If My Review Is Reported?

We check every reported review against these guidelines. We use the same rules whether a review is positive or negative, and whether or not the mover pays us for anything.

  • While we check, the review may be hidden for a short time.
  • We may ask you for more details or proof of your move.
  • If only part of the review breaks our rules, such as a phone number, we may remove just that part or ask you to edit it.
  • If the review breaks our rules, we remove it and tell you why.

What If I Disagree With a Decision?

Reply to the email we sent you about the decision and explain why you disagree. If it still isn't resolved, you can file an appeal. See Action We Take for how appeals work.

What Happens If Someone Breaks These Rules?

We may remove reviews and block a person from posting new ones. If a mover is behind fake or pressured reviews, we may lower its visibility or show a warning on its profile. See Action We Take for details.

Your Information

We use the details you give us to verify and publish your review. Our Privacy Policy explains what we show publicly, what we keep private, and how to ask us to delete your information.

Changes to These Guidelines

We may update these guidelines from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when they last changed. If something isn't covered here, we decide based on what keeps reviews honest and useful for other people planning a move.
