What can I say that hasn’t already been said in all the REAL, and TRUE 1 star reviews. The 5 star reviews here are absolutely fake. Who gets five 5 star reviews on the same day directly following a 1 star review? Five Stars = Fake Review. Read them for yourself… all the detailed reviews are 1 star because they are lived experiences. The truth is that this company makes a really good effort at selling you on a “good” move, but after they have your money, you’re an afterthought. They don’t return calls, and they send your call to voicemail. Happened many many times to us.
My wife and I made the terrible mistake of going against our intuition, and signed one of Brightside’s overly complicated contracts. We moved from Maryland to Colorado, and from the beginning, the sales people lied by telling my wife that they were the company who “moved your possessions” (lie), and that they were “NOT brokers” (lie). This came from Jen Ryan, who also promised that she would be there through the entire moving process (lie). She also said we could get our money back as long as we cancelled before the actual move was to take place (lie). The truth is you have 72 hours from the signature of the Bill of Lading, which for us was months ahead of the move date. They originally quoted us at $7800, after a 1 hour video walkthrough of our home and possessions. They said we needed 1200 CuFt (lie). We thought that was a pretty reasonable rate considering the distance.
4 Days before our originally scheduled moving “window” (the say the move will happens within a 3 day window) we have a QA call with a completely new person, who says Jen “left” and that we need to have another complete video walkthrough. Doesnt offer to use the original list, but instead wants a new list of items to move. Even though we got rid of a massive amount of possessions big and small, after another 1 hour video walkthrough, we are given a brand new quote that was about double the original cost.
At this point I’m shocked and livid. We are days away from the move and new home buyers are already scheduled to move in! IT’S A COMPLETE BAIT AND SWITCH company. Now he says we need at least 2000 CuFt! We are at the mercy of this moving company at this point. They make you sign a brand new contract and there is absolutely no way to get your original downpayment back, even though NO MOVERS HAVE BEEN SCHEDULED YET. They haven’t scheduled anything because we haven’t signed the revised contract. And they call the contracts “Estimates” so that they have the leeway to increase the price whenever they want. I talked to at least 4 different employees over the phone at this company, and all lied through their teeth via selling techniques.
And then when the ACTUAL movers did arrive, it was an entirely separate company, who then did a physical walkthrough of all our things. He said we needed 2500 CuFt, so he jacked the price up another $8K!! ON THE MORNING OF THE MOVE. These companies are piracy in the 21st Century, and you are almost completely screwed if real plans are already in place. They are preying on families who are paying huge sums expecting to work with a company that cares about them, when in fact they ONLY care about taking your money. Their purposefully overly complicated contracts also release them of all liability - just what you want, a company that takes zero responsibility for their actions! Does that sounds like a 5 star company? After our things were packed into a large box truck, our possessions didn’t arrive at our new location for 15 DAYS. I tracked my things, which stayed in a warehouse for 8 days before getting on the road via a Semi. Then after stops in multiple states, 7 days later, our things arrived damaged and missing boxes. Oh, and not only did I owe the remaining balance, but the NIGHT before delivery someone else calls me to say that I owe an ADDITIONAL $1,200 because a semi doesn’t fit down my street, so I need to pay them to rent a U-haul! Ultimately they scammed us out of over $20K, which depleted our savings and irrevocably damaged our family finances.
You can save THOUSANDS of dollars by going with a company that actually moves your possessions and cares about their reputation, rather than these guys who take your money and then contract out the actually work. Our family, including our kids, were traumatized by both companies actions. LEARN FROM OUR AWFUL EXPERIENCE, and stay away from Brightside Movers.
